Manosphere in Brazil
Practical and Ethical Challenges for Journalistic Coverage of Misogyny on Social Media

The article investigates the coverage of journalistic media in Brazil about the invasion and the misogynistic attack on First Lady Janja da Silva’s account on the social network X (formerly Twitter) in December 2023. The aim is to understand whether and to what extent the press contextualizes gender violence on the internet, misogyny on social networks and the manosphere phenomenon, as well as the practical and ethical implications for journalistic coverage of these forms of violence. Through the qualitative content analysis of 78 journalistic articles, it was observed that the press, in general, does not contextualize misogyny, digital gender violence and manosphere and, still, there is the ethical dilemma about the disclosure of offensive content.
