We analyzed the Globoplay series The Others in order to identify how the narrative addresses the theme of fear based on the conventions of “social horror”. In the theoretical basis, the concepts of artistic genre, horror and social horror were adopted to derive the formal object of emotion in this genre: fear. Methodologically, we performed a dramaturgical and stylistic analysis to investigate the generic conventions applied in the series. In short, dialogues, lighting and soundtracks shape the meanings of social horror that, in the narrative, highlights tensions between fragile masculinities, urban violence, and clashes between class and gender, as expressions of the updating of social horror.
