Abstract

This article aims to discuss the problem of values-news and newsthworthiness in a wider frame of social values, power relationships and cultural background, all this, as structural factors in society. Our rationale is a journalist conception as discourse and communicational practice that can be distinguished by three axes: the relation with the real; the nature of its product - the information; its anchoring in the public interest. We entangled notions of newsworthines and values-news in these three axes. Our scope is to discuss such concepts in the point of view of its embeddedness in the field of values and social life. We have studied empirically these issues through an analysis of journalist covering, by Veja magazine, on the most important criminal prosecution in Brazil, named “Lava Jato”.
