Abstract

This paper proposes to think about the ambiguities (more precisely the duality human/animal) presented in the Thai film Tropical Malady, directed by Apichatpong Weerasethakul, as a starting point to discuss the regimen that cinematographic image assumes in its relation to contemporary spectatorship. Weerasethakul’s work becomes exemplary to reflect about contemporary cinema as an art in perpetual transformation, completely opened to alterity, disclosing new forms of spatiality/temporality as well as new connections between identity and difference.
