Abstract

Pablo Alabarces is one of the most renowned Argentinian intellectuals and a reference regarding the articulation between popular culture, communication and sports in Latin America. He is the author of fundamental books such as 'Fútbol y Pátria' (2002) y 'Hinchadas' (2005), Pablo examines sociocultural issues in Latin American societies with a blend of anthropology, cultural studies and sociology. As Full Professor at the Communication Faculty of the University of Buenos Aires, Pablo Alabarces has strong links with researchers and institutions all over Latin America, and have been working close to Brazilian researchers for a long time. In this exclusive interview, Pablo talks about the cultural dilemmas of periphery societies, football hooliganism, media discourse and supporters culture, as well as the forthcoming sports mega events in Brazil.
