This study aims to examine the relationship between high school students and algorithmic personalization. An exploratory investigation was conducted using interviews about everyday uses of Instagram. The literature review presents theoretical debates from Latin American communication research, in which practices of resistance to algorithms are highlighted. The qualitative analysis shows that participants’ practices are ambivalent, characterized by both fear and distrust as well as convenience and practicality. The findings suggest that research should focus more on the friction between diverse and conflicting positions in algorithmic practices than solely on resistance.
